Somerset Karate now has its own website. The address is www.SomersetKarate.co.uk. It has been constructed, designed and maintained by Sempai Parkes. It is, however, still in its infancy so please be patient.

It's Back!

Sparring training is back on the agenda. In fact its back in two forms!

There is grading sparring, where you can practise the kind of sparring you will need for your grading. This is semi-contact sparring and requires you to wear full sparring gear including head guards for under 16s. Full contact techniques will NOT be permitted.

Then there is tournament sparring. This is light/no contact sparring, and requires you to wear the new kind of ‘dipped foam’ sparring gear and head guard. Most competitors wear t-shirts not gi tops and not all wear belts.

Attending sparring training is essential as it gives the student an insight into how their techniques can or cannot work in real situations.

Everyone is advised to attend sparring practise whether or not they intend to take part in tournaments. You never know you might enjoy it!

Nat-Lee Nippersaurus has arrived

The class for students aged 5-7 years has a new logo, thanks to Sophie and Mitchell Tonks’ dad. It features a really cute dinosaur, based on an Allosaurus, and she is wearing a gi top and belt. Her name as you have probably guessed is Nat-Lee. She is named after our longest surviving chop-a-dile Natalie Hughes., who recently took her 1st Kyu, Brown belt with stripe.
