Masters' Club Lesson

The first Master's Club lesson will be on Sunday, 18 December, from 12:00 - 14:00 at Yeovil College.

Note: This lesson replaces the scheduled brown and black belt lesson. The next brown and balck belt lesson will be in January 2006 (date to be confirmed).

Grading

This months grading will be on Sunday, 23 October and will be held in the sports hall at Preston School. The grading will be split into two sessions as follows:

10:00 - 12:00 Students grading to 6 kyu or below
(white and yellow belts)
12:00 - 16:00 Students grading to 5 kyu or above
(green belts and above)

Students grading to black belt or higher must attend for the whole day.

Please remember to bring:

  • Licence (if your instructor hasn't already got it)
  • Gi (clean and ironed)
  • Belt
  • Plain white T-shirt to wear under gi top (if female)
  • Sparring gear (6 kyu - green belts - and above)
  • Inhaler (if required)
  • Medication (if required)
  • Money for grading and belt (if not standing order)
  • Students grading to black belt or higher are requested to supply 2 passport-sized photos for certificates


Best wishes to all that are grading - just remember to stay relaxed and do your best.

Shihan Stoddern Seminars

Shihan Ian Stoddern, 6 Dan, will be teaching two special courses on Wednesday 26 October at Buckler’s Mead School, Yeovil.

09:00 - 13:00 Kata
Includes Kihon, Tensho, Saifa and more, with applications for each.
Price: £20
13:00 - 17:00 Weapons (Bo and Nunchaku)
Course will include a grading and price includes weapons (discount available for those who already have their own).
Price: £34
Certificate of attendance given for each course.

Shihan Stoddern

Shihan Ian Stoddern, 6th Dan Tsuen-Mo-Luen, will be visiting the UK at the end of October.

Shihan Stoddern will be chief examiner at the grading on 23 October. He will also be teaching at regular classes during his visit and at a number of special additional classes, including use of traditional weapons, we hope to arrange. Full details to follow.

Beaminster

Due to lack of numbers, our Beaminster school will be closing at the end of this month. The final lesson will be Friday, 30 September.

We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience and thank all Beaminster students, past and present, for their support over the years.

British Sports Martial Arts Premiership

Excellent achievement by all five competitors that attended the BSMAP tournament on Sunday, 11 September, especially in the under-16 Japanese Kata section where there were many competitors.

Seito Aaron Scoble

3rd Under 150cm Semi Contact
Fought well. Though unlucky in the scoring, did really well considering this was his first fight since moving up into this category.

Lost out to Seito Silcox's 2nd placed Kihon Kata.

Seito Melanie Stewart

3rd Under 150cm
A good effort from Mel, the confidence and ability is starting to show, but lost out to a more experienced fighter. Watch this space...

After a poor start with Tuski-no-kata, she followed up in the tie with an excellent Kihon Kata.

Lost out to 'Storm' Ashley Brace.

A very good effort but lost to a more experienced light contact fighter.

The following members of Somerset Karate competed at the BSMAP tournament held at the Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex, Guildford, Surrey on Sunday, 23 January 2005.
