Cimac World Cup, 8th July 2007, Windsor

There was a disappointing lack of interest from our students in this prestigious event. However, two students did go with sensei. There were many competitors from around the globe, including some old friends and now some new ones.

Chelsie Scoble
Chelsie was very keen to compete at this event. She entered in the under 16 years traditional kata, a huge event for an eight year old. She introduced herself without fault and performed a very good Kihon Kata. The judges were impressed and Chelsie was awarded 2nd place behind a much older and superior black belt.

Martin Ormshaw
This was Martin's first open event, but despite that he was entered into the intermediate men’s. This was a large category and many competitors were of a much higher grade and a lot more experienced. We waited for what seemed an age and still he wasn't called. After checking it was discovered that he received a bye into the second round. He started the round going one point down but soon relaxed and got it back. The scores were neck and neck, extra time was added and Martin came out on top. The third round he was faced with a fighter whose timing was superb to say the least. Martin put up a very good effort but was unsuccessful this time. Well done, a very good start.

Sensei Mike Scoble
The Adults Traditional Kata category was very well supported with 12 competitors from various styles and from different parts of the world. Sensei performed a very well executed Seienchin. This was a complete change of kata from his usual Uke-No-Kata as there were so many good kata and something had to be pulled out of the bag. It worked: Sensei was placed 2nd losing to an excellent Unsu executed without fault by a Hungarian karateka.

13 Jul 2007
British Kata Championships, 1 July 2007, Wolverhampton

The under 16 years 3rd Kyu and above category was very large with over 20 competitors. Our two competitors each did very well.

Sempai H Silcox
Heidi did her best Seienchin in competition to date. However, the judges didn't score it too highly and she didn't make the cut.

Sempai A Scoble
Aaron did a very good Tsuke-No-Kata with excellent balance and control but also didn’t make the cut.

Sensei Mike Scoble
Did a very focused Uke-No-Kata and managed 3rd place.

We went to this competition to test the waters and came away with our heads held high.
